Robin Hood and his band of merry outlaws receive short shrift in this oversimplified adaptation of Howard Pyle's novelization of the legend. The relentlessly short sentences create a monotonous rhythm, but there may be enough adventure to keep readers new to chapter books turning the pages.

The legendary folk hero and the outlaws of Sherwood Forest outsmart the Sheriff of Nottingham and aid the poor and luckless in this pallid 'dumbing down' of an English classic. Black-and-white lackluster illustrations appear throughout the simple text.
