A Step-by-Step Guide to Making and Sewing Your Own Costume Designs

As geek culture continues to invade mainstream culture, cosplay--once the realm of Comic Con attendees and anime fanatics--has as well. Veteran manga artist and cosplay participant Good combines her knowledge of sewing and cosplay in this collection of tips, tricks, and designs. There are five basic themes: a Sailor Moon-style suit with bow, medieval/fairy-tale costumes for men and women, a steampunk ensemble, an sf warrior costume, and a superhero costume. Each includes a series of variations, allowing for customization based on the character or style portrayed. The majority of Good's designs are suitable for adventurous beginners, and she includes plenty of helpful advice. VERDICT Cosplay continues to grow in popularity, and Good's overview of cosplay basics will please sewists who wish to explore techniques for designing and sewing their own ensembles.
